A Year of Believing:
ANGEL
Believe in Angels...Believe in Me
Midas Records
W hat a difference a year makes.
Angel got her wings even before the release of her ADA/WEA-distributed Midas Records debut, Believe in Angels...Believe in Me , and she's been flying high ever since.
The Southern California high school junior's record release party at New York City hotspot Crobar was a smokin' send-off to her ongoing Midas Records Presents: The VH1 Save The Music Tour Starring Angel . She has performed at 200 schools in front of more than 175,000 kids so far, and talking to them about avoiding drugs, alcohol and tobacco to achieve their dreams, proving that if it works for her, it will work for them . She has received top grades from the media (including Teen Newsweek ), educators and students for her arena-quality concerts and articulate, personable chats.
Up at 6 a.m. to prepare for an action-packed day of shows sometimes two back-to-back to accommodate huge audiences, Angel is a trooper, but laughs, I am not a morning person. Recently, I did 15 shows in four days, which is nuts , but it's going great. Everyone is having a good time.
After going to schools, she goes to school, devoting her afternoons to studies with a teacher that's on tour with her.
Even in the winter it's summer for Angel, with the Clear Channel -LEI Jeans Non Stop Summer Jam concerts, workin' it with MTV's DJ Skribble, in a series of national appearances concurrent with Midas Records Presents: The VH1 Save The Music Tour Starring Angel .
LEI jeans gave me 14 outfits for the tour one for each show. I got to go to their showroom and try on all kinds of different stuff.
Although she got to go to Japan for a promotional tour to coincide with the welcomed release of Believe In Angels Believe In Me in that country, Angel has a favourite event among the many turning points that have taken her through the year.
What was really cool was that I did KIIS-FM's Wango Tango in L.A. I had attended the summer concert festival as a fan for four years. All my friends came and saw me perform. It was awesome. It was a great feeling going to do something that I had once attended as a fan. It's a weird feeling.
As for her first visit to Asia , she recalls excitedly, I got to go to all kinds of different radio stations and magazines in Tokyo and Osaka , and talk to so many different people in the industry, and I got to perform there. The fans were so cool. All you see when you look into the audience is a bunch of camera phones; everybody is holding them up the whole time. It was definitely a unique experience.
Already earning her wings as a philanthropist, one of Angel's personal highlights of the year was an invitation from Jerry Lewis' daughter Dani to perform Just The Way I Am on the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon for MDA, helping raise over $60 million.
The Wizardz of Oz-produced first single, Just the Way I Am, was already being real on the Top 40 chart when Midas Records' hot new artist received another very cool invitation, descending on the renowned Mall of America for the launch of her Dry Ice Mall Tour, which coincided with the Summer 2004 release of Believe in Angels...Believe in Me . In an unprecedented move, Midas Records made the album available exclusively at the Angel Boutique in the center of the Mall of America, after the high school junior's performance there.
Comments Angel of St, Louis-based Dry Ice, the teen-oriented retail chain specializing in furnishings, lighting and accessories, The stuff is so cute. It's trendy, funky, girly stuff. It's cool when you get to promote something that you actually like. Same with LEI. I make choices based on whether I like something. Because who wants to go out there and wear something they don't like?
The Dry Ice Tour was neat, going to all of the different malls and seeing all the kids. We gave away a few Daisy Rock guitars. I also did a shopping spree with a girl who won the Dry Ice contest. She got to spend $1000, and got bedroom furniture, lamps and chairs. I got some stuff, too. I couldn't help myself. I have to do some shopping, right?
Shopping will be a fashion imperative when her clothing line, Curfew by Angel, rolls out with the '05 fall line.
It's a cool responsibility, she comments on her hands-on involvement in every aspect of the process.
Leave it to Angel to cap off an amazing year by putting everyone in the holiday spirit with her Christmas song, It All Started With A Child (written by Keith Follese/Adrienne Follese/John Reid), inspired by syndicated radio personality Delilah. It was the #1 most added for the second consecutive week at FMQB A/C (non R&R), and was also included on the TM Hit Disc , as well as serviced to more than 800 radio stations internationally, including the Wal-Mart Radio Network, Kroger Stores Radio, and the Armed Forces Radio Network.
Rounding out no less than four hit singles in 04 so far from Believe in Angels...Believe in Me , How Can I Lie (remixed by Ralphi Rosario ) and Love Is (penned by Adrienne Follese/Shauna Bolton) join It All Started With A Child as a multi-format radio trinity, following in the Top 10 wake of Just the Way I Am.
How Can I Lie debuted first week out on the Billboard Hot Dance Music Club Play Top 50 chart and jumped all the way up to #6*. The remix video version of the song is also being blasted in the clubs and on video channels. A second remix of the song by Eddie Baez has just shipped to clubs and dance specialty radio.
Love Is was a true Top Ten hit on the FMQB A/C radio chart at #8.
This has been the year of Believe in Angels... , and also a year of Angel believing in herself.
I am one of those people who believe that if you believe something is going to happen to you, then it will, Angel reflects. You make it happen based on what you think is going to be your future.
